Position/Title:
Digital Journalism Instructor

Responsibilities

With this position, the Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication intends to encourage the participation of practicing professionals to prepare journalism students for employment; The successful candidate will teach and coordinate the development and implementation of programs and activities that will enhance students’ digital journalism skills in demand in today’s job market; They will partner with newsrooms to establish internships to help students obtain work samples; The candidate should be able to create opportunities for résumé building, interview training and networking with alums, journalists, media company recruiters and journalism groups; The individual should be dynamic and capable of helping raise the internship and employment rate as a whole for the graduates of Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication;

Position/Title:
Broadcast Instructor

Responsibilities

Serves as the instructor and news director for a daily live TV/Web newscast, supervising and instructing the work of student reporters, editors, anchors, producers, videographers, and other positions; Teaches one or two courses per semester that cover broadcast journalism, digital news, media producing, visual storytelling, and reporting; Is the faculty co-advisor of a student media organization; Provides specialized instruction to students in a news facility, which includes a computerized newsroom, dedicated news studio, and extensive digital video equipment, including cameras and editing suites;
Engages in relevant journalism, media departmental and university service, community service, advisement, and mentorship-related activities; and Assists students with internship and employment contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in Broadcast Journalism, mass communication, visual communication, video/broadcast production;
Minimum of three (3) years of key roles in newscast producing or reporting;
Minimum of three (3) years of collegiate teaching experience;
A reputable combination of post-baccalaureate education and professional live commercial news and documentary experience;
Possesses new media skills in videography, editing, and social media for journalism;
Strong leadership/interpersonal skills while having a strong classroom management style;
Demonstrated proficiency in instruction areas to include a combination of production (i.e., commercial news, documentary, and video production and post-production) and non-production (i.e., broadcast announcing);
Demonstrated mastery of ENPS for news writing and producing video news feeds, and use of server-based news systems;
A professional portfolio that demonstrates applicable skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated teamwork and communication skills;
Demonstrated best practices in developing and maintaining student relations, communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and leadership skills;
A classroom leader, colleague, and student mentor who will help advance the success and achievement of students;
Known industry contacts and networks for student internships and job placement;
Substantial experience with producing live commercial news broadcasts and online production techniques, including technical and editorial skills;
Significant knowledge and understanding of the use of digital journalism across multiple platforms, including the Web;
Excellent student and staff relations, communication, interpersonal, decision-making and leadership skills.

This is a Faculty position.

The position is fully remote, so you can be located anywhere within the states of Florida or Maryland, but must be fluent in English and have excellent grammar and spelling. Hours are flexible. Looking for someone available to start in September to prepare for a Fall 2023 relaunch of the social media accounts.
